What Won in Shoot-Out

Image
We never recieved results of which images won, we only know placement for Shoot-Out. These are what I believe I won with. There may be discrepancies. Honorable Mention Sports B/W: This for sure won. Honorable Mention Sports Color: I really hope this image won. It's been one of my favorite sports photos all year, but it hasn't received any awards. First Place Photojournalism Color: All three images I entered in this category are basically the same. They were all from the state swim meet. I believe this to be the best, therefore the image that won.  Third Place Open B/W: This for sure won.

Images Worth Blogging About

Image
ISO: 640 APERTURE: 2.8 SHUTTER SPEED: 1/320 I took this over a weekend in first semester while I was on a photography escapade with my friend, JB. He had just recently gotten a camera, and Smith was talking about how Texarkana actually has architecture.  We went downtown and in front of the jail, we saw these shoes all alone. JB just took a picture looking down on them from where he was standing and walked away from them. I thought that was a little ridiculous because the shoes could have a story from them. This photo did a poor job of depicting the story. I could've gotten the jail in the background to portray more, but I just liked this.  ISO: 160 APERTURE: 11 SHUTTER SPEED: 0.5 For New Year's, JB and I decided to use time exposure for fireworks. This isn't exactly what I expected to get, but it was the best out of what I got. I had a 70-200mm lens and laid on the ground. Because I didn't get a tripod, I had to steady the camera on the ground.

Shoot-Out Entries

Image
For ShootOut, I entered a black and white portfolio and these are the photos that were in it. I loev this photo of Leah, but I liked it better in color. It just looks too bland to be in black and white.  This is "digitally constructed" and that's all I have to say about that. I have always liked this picture. It was never intended to just be focused on the hands. There was supposed to be smoke, but I'm very happy with how it turned out.  This is from the state swim meet. This isn't even one of our swimmers. This looks better in black and white because the colors are messed up since its a GoPro picture.  This was taken at Northridge. I like silhouettes so this picture makes me happy.  I took this on my trip to Mississippi, and it looks way better in black and white than in color.  I like the string of lights. I think that's what makes this picture so interesting. This is one of my favorites. This isn't a fantastic photo,

Basketball Playoffs

Image
ISO: 2500 APERTURE: 1.8 SHUTTER SPEED: 1/500 ISO: 2500 APERTURE: 2.8 SHUTTER SPEED: 1/160 These photos were from the girl's basket ball game for play offs. This is the first year the girls have advanced out of district. We didn't advance passed this game, though. I was told to get a photo of the coach since he is new this year. I wish in the bottom photo, I could have gotten the heads of the girls standing around the coach. It's awkward. The top photo should have used a higher aperture. I wish you could see the background for the players. Then you could see what they are looking at. I thought is was more towards photojournalism.

Baseball

Image
ISO: 1250 APERTURE: 2.8 SHUTTER SPEED: 1/8000 ISO: 1600 APERTURE: 2.8 SHUTTER SPEED: 1/3200 This was my first baseball game to shoot. I tried getting more photojournalistic images aside from what we normally get every year. The top photo was from the dugout. I hated the lighting because of how awkward it was. The bottom picture of Anthony was supposed to be really tight. I wish you could see more of his face, but this was a lucky shot. He was getting ready to go up to bat and practicing his swing. I shot this through the fence by the dugout.

GoPro- Newspaper

Image
Go Pro I took advantage of Mr. Littman's absence this day. Mrs. Potter needed a picture for the newspaper spread, so Smith decided it'd be a good idea to use the GoPro for a different angle. It took a million tries to get a good image. JB, our model, kept moving his head. The aperture is too big, therefore the shutter speed is ridiculously slow. We had to sit in front of every person and count to fifteen before we could move onto the next person. This is what we ended up with after some editing.

Review!

Image
ISO: 160 APERTURE: 2.8 SHUTTER SPEED: 1/8000 ISO: 160 APERTURE: 8.0 SHUTTER SPEED: 1/250 This is a review blog of photos I have taken just this year. The first photo was from my first week of being a photographer (if you could have called me one at that point) during bootcamp learning my basics. The second is a portrait shot I have done recently which inquired more skill than the first photo did. I through out all the rules I used for the first photo in order to take the second and used computer editing to make it more a portrait style.  I was really proud of my first photo when I took it, but reviewing these two, I have definitely grown in my creativity, skill, and learning.

Possible Josten Entries

Image
ISO: 250 APERTURE: 3.5 SHUTTER SPEED: 1/3200 ISO: 800 APERTURE: 5.6 SHUTTER SPEED: 1/1600 I know that I for sure want to enter these into Jostens. I'm very surprised that I have not received recognition for my golf photo this year. It is probably my favorite photo tI've taken this year. I have attachment to the cross country photo because of Grant's neck. I feel like these may have a strong chance since they aren't plain football or basketball photos and they convey something unique to the specific sport. The golf photo is from a unique angle while the subject is mid swing. The cross country picture shows someone using endurance and pushing themselves to make it across the finish line.

Feimster- Theater

Image
ISO: 800 APERTURE: 4.0 SHUTTER SPEED: 1/100 Miss Feimster is actually pretty cool. I walked into her class and asked if she could teach her class for a picture. She responded by telling me that that would be completely out of the ordinary. She got up and began arguing and giving traffic signals to a student sitting behind a desk on the stage. I don't like this picture because the girl sitting at her desk on the right is playing on her phone. I do like the angle of the photo though. It's almost like its from a student's perspective.

Basketball- Mount Pleasant

Image
ISO: 1600 APERTURE: 4.0 SHUTTER SPEED: 1/320 I like this picture because of the player's expression. I wish I could've gotten wider to see his setting and what was actually happening. The background is way under exposed. I could probably bring it up a couple stops in Lightroom. I should've shot this horizontal, but I was already posed with camera vertical. The shot would have been lost if I didn't go ahead and shoot it.  The background is distracting because I haven't straightened it. The opposing player on the ground should be in the picture, but since it was shot vertical, the subject would've been awkwardly shoved rule of thirds to the left facing out of the shot.
