Portfolio

Image
As a senior, I'm graduating and going to do other things out of high school. I won't be in this high school photography program, but I am interesting in serving on a publications staff or pursuing a job in this field. That being said, I need a portfolio. I think the best way to go about this is to use my best images from different areas rather than all sports or photojournalism. I've learned multiple skills exemplified by these images such as how to take portraits, play with time exposure, waiting on just the right picture and being patient. I've had to use Photoshop to create some images, but I've also learned that the best photographers don't rely on it for a crutch. Adventures in Web Design & SEO

Let's Goooooo! Did you know when you work for a nonprofit that you wear all the hats? #TheMoreYouKnow.  While I served as the Marketing and Development Manager at the Ellen Noel Art Museum in Odessa, Texas, I took it upon myself to gift the Museum with a newly branded webpage. Why? Because I'm a glutton for punishment, apparently.  All jokes aside, I wanted to leave my mark on the position. The museum was in the middle of a large capital campaign for a renovation to the building, and our web presence did not reflect all the amazing things happening. It was a SquareSpace site, and was not being updated. For context, there was so much turnover in the position managing the webpage and everyone on staff always had access to it, so it definitely looked like everyone had been posting to it. It was very hard to navigate how to make corrections because it had been hodgepodged by so many people until it was almost impossible to figure out how to do anything with it. Not to mention, th

Back Again!

Cheers to the highly anticipated return of Savannah Pritchard - Woodward on the art scene...and now as a paid artist to boot! What have I been up to since my last blog post? Funny you ask. I graduated early in 2018 with my Bachelor of Business Administration. Sorry high school me with dreams of becoming a high school journalism teacher! I married my best friend, Justin, and we started our family. Our son, Cole, is now in his terrible twos, IYKYK, am I right? I trekked through marketing and communications, healthcare, local government, event planning and have landed in higher education advancement/development career-wise. Funny, right? Be on the lookout for a hopeful transition to bigger and better things soon.  I moved to Odessa, TX. Yes, Odessa, TX. The desert. Oil town. West Texas. AKA the middle of nowhere. AND I LOVE IT. I have found a community in Odessa that is so welcoming and brimming with potential, with resources readily available. This was something I never realized was mis

This is probably my favorite type of graphic to do because it's fun. Again, I was trying to do something quick and on the spot. This took about two hours to do, and would've been easier working with vectors in Illustrator, but again I was limited to Photoshop. Luckily, my job has a license for Adobe so I can start using my products through that and won't run into this problem anymore. I like that it can look messy and not perfect. I had my Wacom tablet from Intuos, but forgot my cable and pen. That would have been awesome to use for free form sketching especially on the arrows for example in Illustrator. Moral of today's story, come to work prepared with all my gear in a backpack in case I need something.  The flag could have looked ton better, and three of the arrows are the same one copied and contorted, which I would love to fix, but was running out of time. I like this design because its a lot more interesting than just writing out a list in Microsoft Word and

This is my first graphic I made for work. It's not just super awesome, but this is also the first time I'm having to use any design skills I have for work since I graduated. There's a lot more I'd like to learn, and I really think using Illustrator for something such as this would've been way more beneficial, but since my Adobe membership has expired this was the best I could do in Photoshop. It took maybe an hour while I was eating lunch and I was just trying to get something up quick. If I had time to go back and work on it I would like to do a better Post-It note and put a shaded box with a low opacity behind the date and time to make it stand out a little more. Overall, the image is really simple.

Convocation 8-26-15

My school requires four semesters of chapel credit for all students since we are a private school. I am enrolled in chapel this semester. Convocation is a more formal chapel held in our gym arena the first Wednesday of every month. We have a guest speaker from the community or administration speak to us about whatever they feel is relevant and important. This was not only my first chapel, but my first photography assignment at UMHB. Here's how it turned out: ISO: 1600 APERTURE: 2.8 SHUTTER SPEED: 1/80 ISO: 1600 APERTURE: 2.8 SHUTTER SPEED: 1/80 I am fully aware and take responsibility for these two pieces of crap. So, here's everything I know to be wrong with them. First, let me just preface with no one told me dress code for this, so I wore a tee shirt that wasn't even from our school. Therefore I was put in the stands. It was super awkward because I didn't want to move around too much. The bleachers squeak and everyone's quiet. I had a flash, and Smi

UMHB Yearbook

I have been hired on staff as a photographer for the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor's yearbook, the Bluebonnet. I am expected to have a lot of work put into it as a photographer and in other areas such as writing, layout and design. I'm really excited about this opportunity because I've already switched my major and decided to major in Art with an emphasis in graphic design and minor in marketing. Our staff is ridiculously smaller than my high school was, but it's the same kind of environment and work flow. This just means that more is expected of me. When I first walked in to the interest meeting the first week of school, two students approached me and asked if I was Savannah, as if I'm some kind of goddess or something, which flattered me, but still weirded me out a little bit. They seemed really nice. I later found out that one, Cameron is now my photo editor and the girl, Blair, is another photographer that I've quickly made friends with. Apparently, my

Playing with Opacity

Image
I was really bored in class, and I knew I needed blogs, so I tried to recreate an image. It ended up coming out completely different and not SUPER modified from the original photo. I plan to recreate the original inspiration that didn't happen today, but this is what endlessly changing my mind came up with. I wanted to play with opacity and make the layers seamlessly flow in Photoshop. This is what ended up coming out of my fourth period class today.
